17th Jewish Culture Festival
The first Jewish Culture Festival was 19 years ago. During all those years the festival earned great appreciation in Poland and the world and has become one of the biggest and the most important events of its kind. The Krakow festival merges traditional and avant-garde Jewish culture. This year’s occassion will be a 9-day session of about 200 events featuring over 130 artists from Poland, United States, Canada, Argentina, France, Germany, Italy and Israel. Festival performers: Canadian group Beyond the Pale performing their own interpretations of compositions by W.A. Mozart; Yaakov Motzen, Chaim Adler and Israel Rand with the Kolot Min Hashamayim Choir from Jerusalem conducted by Rafael Bitton; Krakow bands – Kroke and Bester Quartet; Veretsky Pass; Frank London’s project, Carnival Conspiracy with Ritmodelia – a Polish percussion group. For the first time, as part of the festival, artists will perform who merge music styles from different regions, e.g. Klezmer and Argentinean music. Outdoor concerts will be taking place every day on the square between the High Synagogue and the Isaac Synagogue. The name of the artist, who will perform on Friday evening on the roof of the famous “Okrąglak” on Plac Nowy, will stay secret until the last moment. The final concert, Szalom in Szeroka, gathers together thousands of people every year. Live TV transmission is planned this year.
