Celebrations of the 3rd anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II
Although it is difficult to put into words our pain after the loss of John Paul II, we will as always - from all our hearts and as best we can - pay tribute to the man whose absence is felt by inhabitants of all continents and followers of all religions. This year's celebration of the anniversary of the Holy Father's death will last three days, and they will be crowned with the Leśniów Oratorio "Seven Songs of Holy Mary" on the Main Square in Krakow.
The show, with lyrics by Zbigniew Książek, focuses on the life of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The music was composed by Bartłomiej Gliniak, and the performers will include, among others, Joanna Słowińska, Olga Szomańska-Radwan, Przemysław Branny, Maciej Miecznikowski, Igor Michalski, Michał Dworzyński and Marcin Klejdysz. All of the components of the Leśniów Oratorio, including fragments from the Bible, contemporary texts, elements of Polish folklore and oriental sounds, complement one another and create a musical form infused with mysticism and spirituality.
Additionally, special film screenings have been prepared. The Sfinx Cinema (os. Górali 5) will present, among others, the legendary "Pilgrim" documentary which is an account of the first pilgrimage of John Paul II to Poland.
The faithful will be able to participate in a solemn mass in the Church of SS Peter and Paul (Grodzka 54). The celebrations of the third anniversary of the death of Karol Wojtyła will be completed by an evening vigil outside the Pope's window in Franciszkańska 3.
The figure of the Polish Pole is best reflected in his own words, uttered during a homily in Krakow's Błonia in 1979: "You must be strong with a love which is more powerful than death...".
