Rembrandt and his Competitors
The exhibition in International Cultural Centre Gallery in Cracow presents 140 most valuable works by Rembrandt van Rijn and his contemporaries. Masterpiece prints come from the collection of the Prints Rooms of the Scientific Library of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The exhibition "Rembrandt and his competitors" at the ICC Gallery is a rare opportunity to compare the graphic oeuvre of Rembrandt van Rijn with prints by other well-known artists contemporary to him and competing with him on the Amsterdam art market. These include Jan Lievens, Adriaen van Ostade, Cornelis Visscher, Ferdinand Bol, Jan van de Velde II, Jacob van Ruisdeal and the printmakers of the Rubens School.
The 140 prints on display demonstrate impressive artistic mastery and rich thematic and iconographic breadth. These self-portraits of the masters, portraits of their loved ones and of eminent Dutch figures, landscapes, and Biblical and genre scenes offer an insight into early Netherlandish graphic art, a world still little known to the public.
